Route description

East of SR 7, it travels through Century Village, Florida's Turnpike, and Haverhill before entering West Palm Beach. It then crosses Interstate 95 (SR 9), and crosses the southern end of downtown West Palm Beach as a one-way pair of Okeechobee Road and Lakeview Avenue, passing through CityPlace and Palm Beach Atlantic University before crossing the Intracoastal Waterway (Lake Worth) via the Royal Park Bridge, ending a few blocks west of the ocean at SR A1A.[2]

West of the western terminus of SR 704, Okeechobee Boulevard continues for another six miles (10 km), acting as the main east-west road of Royal Palm Beach and Loxhatchee Groves, until an intersection with Seminole Pratt Whitney Road in Loxahatchee. Just beyond the end of Okeechobee Boulevard (but accessible only from Southern Boulevard, US 98-US 441/SR 80) is Lion Country Safari, a zoological park through which visitors drive instead of walk.

History

SR 704 was established in the 1945 renumbering. The road was not designated as a state road in the pre-1945 system, and only known as a local road called Okeechobee Road.[3]

Major intersections

The entire route is located in Palm Beach County.
